What's on Your Work Desk Wednesday 1st February 2012

Oh my goodness me... February already?  I didn't do enough in January yet!! ;)  So here we are with another Wednesday upon us and the phenomenom of people noseying about other work desks, floors, beds etc... don't forget to check out Julia's for the linky list!!
On the side of my work desk this week is my new toy!!  Chris bought it for me when we were in Michaels the other day because my old cutter had started cutting crooked.  We had a couple of vouchers so managed to pick this beauty up for 40% off and 25% off the 40%... which made it go from the most expensive cutter in the store to a very reasonably priced one!! ;)
and it unfolds to use so doesn't take up very much space.
Also on my work desk are the results of a trip to the Home Depot... we were there to get some plumbing bits and I wondered into the kitchen section and found racks of samples for kitchen work tops!!  Wooo hooo... they are fabulous and now all I have to do is think of a way to use them!! LOL (The Home Depot mannie asked me if I was getting new kitchen work tops soon and I said no... but he didn't make me put them back)!!   Then I wondered down the aisle that sells the vinyl siding which coats all the houses here... and promptly took an assortment of those too... and a quick bypass of the Martha Stewart paint chips and I was set up for serious playing materials all for free!!
Aren't they pretty?  I can see them on a canvas with letters... a little mini book.... oh lots of ideas are floating about but suggestions are always welcome!!

  1. I kept wondering where you were. I kept looking for your name, but to no avail. And to think you thought I was chomping at the bit, but ended up being # 30.

What a super cutter. My guillotine cutter has never cut straight, but I can't seem to get the hang of those others. I even have a nice one, and never ever use it. Chris sure treated you to an awesome tool.

I've got more of those little kitchen samples than you can shake a stick at. I've made magnets out them, used them in collages, and if you want to add holes at the bottom, just use your crop-a-dile. It works perfectly. As for the siding, I've never seen samples of that before. Be careful, though. Those MS samples have some kind of printing that allows them to show through on the back of most everything you attach them to. Have a great Wednesday, dear friend.

  21. Hee hee. Don't you love picking up free samples?!? I got a stack of the heavy coasters from Outback a while back. The waiter put a BUNCH in a bag for me. I was thinking of using them for a mini-book. You gave me some more aisles to go down while visiting Home Depot or Lowes. I've always picked up paint samples!

Keep us posted on what you do with them!!

    Hugs,

  25. What a lucrative shopping expedition that was. Well done you! You'll have to start a column "The Thrifty Shopper" and give us all the tips (especially me before I leave for home.
That cutter looks wonderful, if only I could afford Mary's Grand Mark (and take it home) I would have a new one. Will investigate Michaels if we go back there.
Thanks for sharing and now to catch up on what you have done previously.

  32. Howdy,

You've inspired me to stop at HD and get some vinyl samples. Looks like they would make neat backgrounds in an art journal...(already got a slew of wallpaper samples).

Would love for you to stop by my WOYWW when you have a moment or 2!

    Peace,

  33. Cutters/trimmers are the bane of my existence ... I've got three all abandoned in favour at last of a guillotine which does cut straight! Your cutter looks great though ... I hope you get many happy years out of it. Why, of why, don't our stores here offer vouchers too? And why don't our DIY stores carry samples like the ones your teasing us with? The paint samples are such a decent usable size in comparison to the teeny-weeny paint daubs that are available to us. Can't wait to see what you create with them. Have a wonderful week.
